Vintage & Natural Recipes from Europe
Authentic Eastern European cakes, tortes & savoury favourites,
crafted with less sugar, more heart — right on Corydon Ave.
"We bring home to people."
— Vira Volt, Owner & Head BakerOur Story
Tucked into the bustle of Winnipeg's Corydon Village, Honey Bunny Pastry Shop is a labour of love from mother-and-daughter team Vira and Finnen Volt.
After 17 years in Winnipeg and a lifetime of baking in Ukraine, Vira couldn't find the kind of pastries she grew up with in North America — so she opened her own shop. Every recipe is rooted in Eastern European tradition, then refined with a lighter hand: less sugar, natural flavours, and scratch-made components right down to the cream cheese in our cheesecakes.
Customers regularly walk in and say, "Oh my God, my grandmother used to make this cake" — and that's exactly what we're here for. Over 1,500 recipes developed, and we're still adding more.
No artificial extracts. We import ingredients we can't source locally.
Fresh, rotating daily offerings. Availability varies — so come early.
Gluten-free, vegan, and dairy-free options throughout the menu.
Dietary Needs
Honey Bunny's gluten-free range isn't an afterthought. It's one of the most talked-about aspects of the shop — with dedicated baking days, separate equipment, and an owner who deeply understands celiac needs.
Honey Bunny operates as a shared-facility bakery, which the Canadian Celiac Association typically flags as higher risk. However, the shop is widely praised by the local celiac community for their rigorous protocols.

What People Say
"The cakes are flavourful, not 'sugar bombs' — European as advertised. My family is particularly fond of the vegan chocolate cake with raspberry. A wonderful hidden gem."
"People are coming here and recognizing things they haven't seen for years. We bring home to people. The cakes are not the sweet-sweet kind — it's a more European taste."
"Without doubt the best perogies I've ever eaten. Light dough, lots of savoury filling. A completely different experience than the heavy doughy ones we're used to in Manitoba."
"They have a great selection (15+ options) of gluten-free treats. The staff are really welcoming and helpful. Exceptional — few times can one be so impressed with a bakery shop."
"Multiple people at our wedding said it was the best cake they had ever had. Vira created a custom crème brûlée cake — she even made a special icing that withstood the torching. Incredible."
"If you are a Slavic person, you would be able to buy a lot of cakes from your home countries here. Also enjoyed the gluten-free honey cake — tastes exactly the same as the regular one."
